Caring Hearts & Hands, Summer Update

Written by Deb Esposito
I love our mission at Community -- Helping people find their way back to God. And, I love how our Caring Hearts & Hands ministry does just that! Through CHH we minister our Lord's compassion to people in our church family and community who are experiencing hardships. Over and over, we've seen the glory of God as He brings people back to Him as they experience His compassion in real, tangible ways through our ministry. I believe it's powerful to tell people about Jesus; it's even more powerful to show them Jesus!
Here's some of the highlights in our ministry since the first of the year:
- Launched Hammerheads Fix-It service group in January. Team includes handypeople, carpenters, plumbers, painters, and more. Talk about extreme makeover – they have totally revamped two single mom’s homes since they formed, and are working on a third!
- Launched Prayer Blanket small group in February. Group meets twice a month to fellowship and make prayer blankets for people in need of comfort from the Lord and their church family.
- We reached 517 meals that our Meals team has cooked and delivered through grief, illness, aging or injury. This past spring our Meals team provided meals to eight families at once!
- We reached 138 prayer blankets and shawls! We received several donations from CCC attenders of yarn, fleece fabric and gift certificates for material. Thanks!
- We did a bike collection for the children of CCC single moms, who are struggling financially. We gave out a dozen bikes, after cleaning them up, checking the brakes and putting air in the tires.
- We’ve provided small groups with service projects by partnering with us to help families we are serving.
- Our team has been ministering to the sick and elderly at hospitals and in their homes. A woman contacted CCC looking for people to check in on her elderly mother-in-law while the woman was on vacation. She said she had called several churches in the area and CCC was the only one to step up to the plate to serve her mother-in-law! That was a couple months ago, and our team continues to visit the elderly lady every week. This dear lady keeps asking us how much she owes us for our help. We tell her that as Christ followers this is who we are and what we do!
CHH is about being the heart, hands and feet of Jesus to people through challenging times in their lives. We believe that with a God whose love is so powerful and transforming that no one should go it alone. We'd love you to join us at (and spread the word about!) our upcoming orientation: Sunday, September 14th, 2 to 3:30 p.m. in room 209 at YB. We have opportunities to contribute as an individual, family or small group.
