Big Idea

God has always cared for the vulnerable and marginalized. We can extend God’s compassion to a child living in poverty by sponsoring a child through Compassion International.

Scripture

Micah 6:8, Mark 10:13-16, Isaiah 58:10-11, and Hebrews 10:14

Opening Question

What has been your interaction with poverty? Have you ever sponsored a child living in poverty? If so, what has that experience been like? If not, would you consider sponsoring a child through Compassion International? You can do so at compassion.com/communitychristian to access the children in the local area in Honduras we are investing in.

Bible Discussion

  1. Read Micah 6:8. What do you think it means to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God? What does this passage reveal about God’s heart?
  2. In Mark 10:13-16, Jesus blesses the little children. What does this tell us about God’s view of children? In what ways can we apply the concept of childlike faith in our lives?
  3. Read Isaiah 58:10-11. What does it say will happen when you give to people in need?
  4. Hebrews 10:14 highlights how Christ’s sacrifice on the cross makes us “perfect” while also “being made holy.” What does this practically look like in the lives of Christ- followers?

Life Application

  1. In what ways have you tried to live out justice, mercy, and humility?
  2. How can you apply welcoming children into your life and caring for children in poverty?
  3. Have you experienced the results listed in Isaiah 58:10-11? If so, how? If not, how does this passage inspire and challenge you today?
  4. Do you consider yourself a Christ-follower? Why or why not? How is God growing and transforming you into who He created you to be?
  5. End your time together thanking Jesus for his sacrifice on the cross for you and gratitude for the food on your table. Ask for guidance on how he wants you to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.
