Feb 9 – Feb 15, 2020
Message Big Idea
Together, we encourage and challenge one another to defy gravity and live generously.
Scripture
2 Corinthians 8:1-9; Philippians 2:1-11
Icebreaker & Opening Thought
- What is the first present you ever remember giving to another person?
- It is possible to live a life of rich generosity, even when you don’t feel like you are rich. What might be some examples of this kind of rich generosity?
Bible Discussion
- Read 2 Corinthians 8:1-9. What do you notice about this passage?
- Even though the Macedonians were experiencing poverty and severe trial, they still wanted to help the Jerusalem church. What do you think of their desire to live a life of generosity? Where have you seen that in others?
- Read Philippians 2:1-11. In what ways does the life of Jesus overlap with the description of the Macedonian Church?
- The Macedonian Church defied the gravitational pull of their culture by being like Jesus. What might it look like for the church to do that today?
Life Application
- Our whole church has been challenged to step up together on the generosity ladder. What would it mean for you to take a step on the generosity ladder?
- How can we encourage one another on this journey?
Challenge
As we close out this series, let’s ask God to help us become more generous people. Growing in generosity can be a scary step in our life, but it is a spiritual practice that will grow our relationship with God. At our funerals, wouldn’t we want people to say that we were generous? Let’s continue to step up the generosity ladder so we can become a church that excels in the grace of giving.
