Overview

In our new series, we will look at real-life encounters that people had with Jesus as documented in the book of Mark. Our prayer is that you’ll encounter Jesus in a personal way as we study this book together.

Bible Discussion

1. Do a little research on the book of Mark together. Who wrote it, and when? Share your findings by highlighting any unique features using your Bible, Bible app, or Google.
2. Read Mark 1:1. What does this opening verse of Mark tell us about Jesus? How does Mark’s introduction differ from the other Gospels of Matthew, Luke, and John? How are they the same?
3. Read Mark 1:16-20. What part of this remarkable story impacts you the most and why? What lessons can we learn from how the disciples respond?
4. Read Philippians 3:7-8. What is Paul’s main point in this passage? How can this perspective influence our priorities today?

Life Application

5. Mark 1:16-20 is a story about ordinary people drafted by an extraordinary God. Have you ever felt unqualified? How does it make you feel to consider Jesus is calling you to follow him, just like his disciples?
6. How would you have responded if you had been there fishing with Simon, Andrew, James, and John? How do you respond today to Jesus’ “Come, follow me” invitation?
7. Have you been baptized? If so, what inspired you to take that step? If not, would you consider signing up to be baptized? If you have yet to take your faith public through baptism, consider attending our next Online Baptism Class held monthly.
