Surrendered Giver | June 4 – June 10, 2017

Series Big Idea

Here is a place of financial stress and anxiety. There is a place of financial peace and freedom. If we hope to get from here to there, we will take the next step in our generosity journey.

Message Big Idea

If we hope to get from here to there, we will continue to take steps to become a surrendered giver.

Scripture

2 Corinthians 8:1-9

Ice Breaker and Opening Thought

1. What is the best gift you ever received?
2. What do you think it means to be an extravagant giver?

Bible Discussion

3. Paul is specifically using the example of the Macedonians generosity? Why do you think that could be?
4. Why do you think Paul makes a point of saying, “I say this not as a command”?
5. How could we become rich through Jesus’ poverty?

Life Application

6. Have you ever witnessed someone being extravagantly generous? What was it like?
7. What tensions are you feeling when it comes to money and giving? What are you doing to resolve them? Think about where you are on the giving spectrum:
Initial Giver -> Intentional Giver -> Surrendered Giver
8. What are some challenges you face in making the next step in your generosity?
9. What are some things you can do to improve your willingness to stretch your reflex to give generously?

Challenge

Make a list of the ways you are already “rich” in this life. Where are the areas you have abundantly more than you need? What can you do this week to show your gratefulness for those rich areas?
Have you ever thought about adding a percentage point to your tithe each year? What would that look like?
