Week 1 – The Attitude of Trust | Mar 3 – 9, 2019

Message Big Idea

God will transform our attitude about money when we choose to trust his wisdom about finances and generosity.

Scripture

Proverbs 14:12, 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Ice Breaker

What is one thing you regret purchasing?

Opening Thought

Northwestern Mutual released a statement in 2018 saying money is the number one stressor in American adults scoring higher than work and relationships. Why do you think money is such a big stressor?

Bible Discussion

  1. Read Proverbs 14:12. What do you notice about this passage? How might it relate to finances?
  2. Read 1 Timothy 6:17-19. What stands out to you?
  3. What do you think “life that is truly life” looks like?

Life Application

  1. Why do you think there is so much discussion of money in the Bible?
  2. “Money doesn’t buy happiness.” We’ve all heard it that statement or said it ourselves. Yet, how often are we tempted to live as though we believe money can buy happiness? Why do you think this is a common struggle?
  3. To trust in God means learning to depend on God as our source of satisfaction. What would it mean for you to trust God for your satisfaction?
  4. Re-read 1 Timothy 6:17-19. What do you think “for our enjoyment” means? If it’s more than treating ourselves, what does that look like? How does generosity influence your experience of joy?

Challenge

Make a point to be at services for the next two weeks or watch the message online. There are so many passages in the New Testament about money because our attitudes and actions around money reveal the real source of our hope and satisfaction. Let’s commit to asking God to reveal to us over the next few weeks how we can learn to trust him with our whole lives including our finances.
