Opening Questions

1. Who were you able to B.L.E.S.S. this last week? Whom could you B.L.E.S.S. this week?
2. What’s the best prank you ever pulled on someone else? Or what was the best prank someone pulled on you?
3. Read Matthew 11:29. The passage says Jesus is humble. What comes into your mind when you hear the word humble? How does it make you feel?

Bible Discussion

4. Read Philippians 2:5-11. In verses 6-7, it says Jesus made himself nothing – he took on a humble position. What is significant about Jesus taking on a lowly position? See also Romans 12:16 for additional reflection.
5. Reread Philippians verse 6. Here we see it says Jesus didn’t use his equality with God to his advantage. Jesus didn’t use his privilege as God to his advantage over others. What does it mean to use privilege to get ahead of others?
6. Read Mark 10:42-45. The purpose of Jesus was not to be served but to serve others. What difference does this kind of purpose make in everyday situations?

7. As we think about humility through the lenses of position, privilege, and purpose, where do you see humility being embodied in people, communities, or organizations? What makes them humble?

9. In what ways could you take a step toward humility in your everyday life?
