More Love | Sept 30 – Oct 6, 2018

Message Big Idea

Jesus offers more love by demonstrating what true love looks like.

Scripture

Romans 5:8, John 15:12-13, 1 John 4:8, Philippians 2:5-8

Ice Breaker & Opening Thought

  1. How many songs with the word love in it can you name? Which one would make you change the radio station?
  2. When you hear the word love what comes into your mind?

Bible Discussion

  1. Read Romans 5:8, John 15:12-13, 1 John 4:8, & Philippians 2:5-8. What do you notice?
  2. How would you define love in your own words based on these passages? How might the teaching of love in these passages be similar or different from popular notions of love?
  3. Sometimes the concept of “loving others” can be misunderstood as mushy sentimentality. What are the hard parts of loving other people?

Life Application

  1. No one is perfect, and we fall short and fail to embrace God’s best. The word for that is “sin.” Sometimes we feel our sins are too big for God or anyone else to forgive. What does it take for a person to experience love in the way the New Testament describes?
  2. How do you show love to the people in your life? Are there examples of when you could love more, but don’t? What holds you back?
  3. What can you do different this week to show love to others, especially to those who are hard to love? How can you use Christ’s example to love them?

Challenge

Author Mitch Albom said, “The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others.” As we consider how Jesus demonstrates more love, consider ways that you can joyfully and willingly give your own life to bring others good. Make loving others a priority this week, and we’ll discuss next week what kind of difference that made in your life and others.
