Worship

October 6, 2024

Big Idea

To prepare the way for King Jesus, we worship him with our whole being.

Scripture

Matthew 22:36-40, Psalm 95:6-7, Psalm 96:7-9, and Romans 12:1-2

Overview

In our current series, we are preparing as individuals and as a church for a new and greater work that God
wants to do in us and through us.

Opening Questions

Have you ever had the devastating experience of losing your internet or wifi connection? If so, what was that
experience like for you and how did you survive it? 🙂
What comes to mind when you hear the word “worship”?

Bible Discussion

  1. Read Matthew 22:36-40. What does Jesus say matters most? How is this reflected in the way we worship?
  2. What does it mean to you to “bow down” and “kneel before the Lord” as described in Psalm 95:6-7? How
does the imagery of God as our Shepherd shape the way you view His guidance and provision? In what
ways does this relationship call for trust and obedience?
  3. Psalm 96:7-9 tells us further what worship is. What additional ways of worship are listed here? Have you
ever considered “bringing an offering” as a form of worship? If so, how has that affected your giving? If not,
how does that inspire you to do so? How does the call to “worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness”
challenge the way you approach God in worship?
  4. Read Romans 12:1-2. What do you think Paul means when he says to “offer your bodies as a living
sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God”? How is this “true and proper worship”? What does this look like in our
day-to-day lives? (Hint: See Colossians 3:17.)

Life Application

  1. We are all wired to worship. Whether it is our favorite sports team, a talented artist, or our prized
possession, we all worship something. Outside of worshipping God, what is it for you?
  2. How can we cultivate a heart of worship in our daily lives?
  3. What are some practical ways you can offer yourself back to God as a living sacrifice as Romans 12:1-2
states? Are there any specific areas in your life where you might need to make sacrifices or changes in order
to please God? End your group time in worship together, whether it’s simply listening to a favorite worship
song or singing along with one. As you worship together, give God the Glory and gratitude He so deserves,
making a way for what He has next for you personally, for your small group, and for His church as we enter
the new vision He has for us next week.
