Series Big Idea

Though Joseph lived through so many messed up experiences, the Lord was with him and his life became a model of integrity and grace.

Message Big Idea

God wants us to see that he’s at work redeeming whatever we’ve been through.

Scripture

Genesis 41:1-45:28, Romans 8:28

Ice Breaker and Opening Thought

1. If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

2. How have you seen God at work in your life recently?

Bible Discussion

As a group, discuss the story of Joseph highlighting the main points from chapters 41-45. Also, read Romans 8:28.

3. Is there any part of Joseph’s story that resonates with you?

4. A way of understanding the Romans passage is to interpret it as saying, “Nothing unredeemable can happen to a Christ-follower.” How does that understanding strike you?

5. Look at the words “good” and “called according to his purpose?” What do you think is meant by those terms? What do they mean in light of the story of Joseph?

Life Application

6. Share a time in your life where you saw God redeem a bad situation.

7. In the most recent message, we were encouraged to name the emotion we feel when we experience “messed up” situations. What is the value of naming emotions?

8. Are you currently in a situation where you need God’s redemption (to work together for your good)? How can your group pray for you?

Challenge

Spend some time reflecting on your life this week. Are there circumstances you are facing or have Think about a time you were in a situation God needed to redeem, or maybe in a situation you find yourself in today – search for some Bible verses that apply to your situation – for example, verses about sickness, feeling abandoned, lonely, or depressed. What does the Bible say? If God has already redeemed that situation, take time and give Him praise; if not, use the scriptures you find to pray and give you comfort and direction.
