The Holy Spirit
Week 4 | The Holy Spirit Will Empower You
February 27, 2022
Big Idea
The Holy Spirit empowers us, inviting us to be conduits for God’s mission and miracles.
Scripture
Mark 2:1-12, John 16:7, John 14:12, Ephesians 5:18
Opening Questions
- Have you been able to B.L.E.S.S. anyone this last week? Whom might you B.L.E.S.S. over the coming weeks?
- If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
- We are empowered by the Holy Spirit, who wants to work in us and accomplish the Jesus mission and work miracles through us. What do you think about God working through you to accomplish God’s work?
Bible Discussion
- Read Mark 2:1-12. What do you notice?
- How is Jesus living out his mission in this story?
- Read John 14:12 and John 16:7. Jesus tells his disciples they will do greater things than he because he will send the Holy Spirit. What does that mean for Jesus to say, “we will do greater things?”
Life Application
- On a scale of 1 – 10, where ten is wide open, and one is closed, how open to the Holy Spirit are you in this moment of your life? How is that similar or different to other moments in your life?
- The friends in Mark 2 saw Jesus work a miracle for their friend. If they hadn’t dug through the roof, they wouldn’t have seen Jesus work in such a powerful way for their friend. Do you think we ever miss seeing God work in miraculous ways? Elaborate.
- Read Ephesians 5:18. “Be filled” means to let yourself be continually filled by the Holy Spirit. How can we be continually filled with the Spirit? (Read verses 18 and 19 to get you started.)
- In what ways do you think God is asking you to respond to the call to mission and miracles?
