Work and Worship | Feb 12 – Feb 17, 2017

Series Big Idea

Following Jesus doesn’t always mean “either/or,” often it is a “both/and.”

Message Big Idea

Living in the “and” means choosing to worship in your work.

Scripture

Genesis 1:1 – 2:3; Romans 12:1

Opening Thoughts

1. What was your very first job?

2. Our work can be worship yet we may often feel unhappy in it. On a scale of 1 – 10 with 1 representing “I dread work everyday” and 10 representing “There’s no place like work,” where would you place yourself?

Bible Discussion

3. Read Genesis 1:1 – 2:3. How is work portrayed in these passages?

4. The man and the woman weren’t created on Monday, but on the weekend, where they rested the very next day. They weren’t created to rest from their work, but to work out of their rest. What could this teach us about our identity?

5. Look at Romans 12:1. How is worship defined here?

Life Application

6. If work can be worship, how difficult is it for you to view your work in this way? Explain.

7. How might viewing our work as worship be similar to the B.L.E.S.S. practices?

Challenge

As a group talk about some creative and practical ways you can help one another view work as an opportunity to worship. Commit as a group to implement one of these practical steps and then discuss it next week in your group time.
