What We’re (Actually) Against

Week 3 | The Fight Against Selfishness

June 5, 2022

Big Idea

As Christ-followers, we are against selfishness because Jesus is for generosity.

Scripture

Luke 10:25-37, Philippians 2:1-11

Opening Questions

  1. Whom have you been able to B.L.E.S.S. this last week?
  2. Do you think humanity is driven more by self-interest or the interest of others? Why?

Bible Discussion

  1. Read Luke 10:25-37. What do you notice in the story?
  2. What are all the ways the Samaritan acts in the interest of another?
  3. The Samaritan would have been regarded with suspicion in Jesus’ context. He would have been the “bad guy” compared to the religious leaders in the story. What does it mean that the Samaritan is the good guy in the story?

Life Application

  1. The story of the Samaritan offers an example of someone being generous in their heart, time, and resources. Whom have you known that exhibited generosity in those areas?
  2. How generous would you say you are on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being extravagantly generous? Explain.
  3. In what ways would you like to become more generous? What barriers do you face?
