Praying to Catalyze a Movement
Our God is a missionary God. God sent His Son and God sends the Church into the world to REACH out to those who are far from God, to RESTORE the communities of which we are a part and to REPRODUCE the Jesus Mission in others.
NewThing desires nothing more than to catalyze a movement of reproducing churches that send people out to do mission in the name of Jesus. However, we believe in order to do this effectively we need to pray. The Message puts it this way in Luke 10:2:
"What a huge harvest! And how few the harvest hands. So on your knees; ask the God of the Harvest to send harvest hands."
Aaron and Tracy Monts sensed God leading them to plant a new church in San Francisco, CA. Here's how they describe a significant part of their journey to plant IKON Christian Community Church:
While Tracy and I were visiting the city last summer, we were eating lunch in this quaint restaurant in the Marina District. It was such a small restaurant that the tables were nearly on top of each othera great place to eavesdrop on someone elses conversation and thats exactly what we did. We overheard a young man sitting next to us telling his friend that he was tired of the loneliness of Buddhism and was very interested in getting to know this Jesus, but there just werent any churches.
Later we had the chance to sit down with someone else who shared with us they, along with a couple of other people, had been praying for over 13 years that someone would come along to plant a church in San Francisco. To somehow believe that I play a role in the answer to that prayer is extremely humbling as well as tremendously exciting!
