Life in the Seed, Haiti Team
One of the best kept secrets of Haiti is her beautiful countryside. Though the large cities of Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitian may seem over populated and quite desolate- they ought not to represent the rest of Haiti. Haiti is beautiful indeed! Her rural areas make up most of the terrain; an area and market which has remained overlooked prior to the earthquake. World Relief Haiti has discovered the potential in such regions of Haiti and after months of surveying, planning, and dreaming; has begun developing farms and nurseries in this hidden rural Haiti.
These farms will be the key towards unlocking the economic and communal development that Haiti has desperately needed for decades. This initiative will employ hundreds of local famers, thus creating strong, sustainable small market commerce in Haiti. Not only this, but such food will also be able to serve as much needed nutritional resources to local schools. Thus, the long term benefit of planting such seeds in Haiti can only be multiplied by the tens of thousands. World Relief is currently working with local cooperatives in the Thiotte region to distribute baby coffee plants to local farmers. They have trained technicians on the field to ensure the farmers are equipped with best practices that will help them increase the yield and quality of the coffee they grow on their farms
Karl Santil is a farmer in a mango orchard which World Relief has developed over the last year. World Relief is working on increasing the quality of the Haitian mango business by creating a demonstration farm in Leogane which will both help farmers understand how to add value to their fruit-tree harvest as well as provide additional produce to local school lunch programs.
The capabilities of what God can do through this dream are many, Whether its through avocado, banana, coffee, goat, or even chicken farms; World Relief Haiti is tapping into the organic potential God has already equipped His people with through planting seeds they are bringing life to this country once again.
