Big Idea Series – Hero Maker

Week 1 – Thinking Like a Hero Maker

Feb 16 – Feb 23, 2020

Message Big Idea

Thinking like a hero maker requires a shift from thinking I need to be the hero of the story to deciding to make heroes of others.

Scripture

Matthew 28:18-20, Philippians 2:3-11

Icebreaker

If you could be any superhero, which superhero would you be?

Opening Thought

How might the thought of being extraordinary (like a superhero) sometimes distract from the moments when you can choose something being a hero in small ways?

Bible Discussion

  1. Read Matthew 28:18-20, what stood out to you?
  2. Read Philippians 2:3-11, what characteristics of Jesus stand out to you?
  3. How do these two scriptures inform how we are called to be hero makers like Jesus?

Life Application

  1. Thinking back on your life, who has been a hero maker for you?
  2. Hero making can be very counter-culture. Think of the spheres of your life, where are hero makers welcomed, and where would it be a challenge to become one?
  3. Being a hero maker isn’t about what you can do for yourself, but about what you can do for others. Who in your life needs a hero maker? How could you play a role in either becoming their Hero maker or in helping them take steps to find the right person?

Challenge

We all can positively affect someone else’s life, whether through our words, our encouragement, our actions, our connections, or our genuine care. Take some time this week to plan practical steps that could help you become a hero maker in someone’s life. Pray over that person and ask God to empower and embolden you.
