Overview

Merry Christmas! Each week of our Christmas series, “Above All Names”, we will consider the names given to Jesus in Isaiah 9:6, what it tells us about who Jesus is, and how that particular name can bring tremendous significance to our lives.

Opening Question

Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament on your tree this year? What about that ornament makes it your favorite?

Bible Discussion

  1. Read John 14:27. How does the peace offered by Jesus differ from the peace that the world offers?
  2. John 16:33 is an often-quoted verse. How does this truth encourage you this Christmas?
  3. Read Isaiah 26:3. According to this verse, how do we obtain perfect peace?
  4. Another verse that instructs us on peace is Colossians 3:15. In what ways does being members of one body relate to the call to peace? How does unity within the body of believers contribute to a peaceful community?
  5. Read Luke 1:78-79. What do you think the metaphors of “the rising sun” and “those living in darkness” represent? How are light and darkness related?

Life Application

  1. As we have just read in multiple Bible passages, Jesus came to bring peace to you. Where in your life do you need peace?
  2. Have you ever felt peace despite what was happening around you? What do you think made the difference for you?
  3. God’s peace for you is also a peace he wants to shine through you. How can you shine Jesus’s peace to others this Christmas?
